Update on the September Reunion Weekend, and planning for 2020. Avoiding the 2015 reunion disaster.
Hi All,
Update on the September Reunion Weekend
We had a very successful reunion in September with 3 separate events taking place over 3 days. It was particularly nice to receive as guests our ‘American’ friends, Russ and Chris Dickinson who came up from South Carolina and Aldo Donnarumma from North Carolina. It’s not exactly clear whether they came up for the reunion or to escape Hurricane Irma – either way it was great to see them. Most of us haven’t seen Aldo since the day we graduated!
Here are a few pictures for your perusing pleasure. We want to extend a special thanks to Frank and Barb Papp for hosting the Saturday afternoon get together! You will note that the golf trophies of old made a special appearance and were distributed to deserving classmates!! I think the picture of Bob Taylor with his ‘tiger-testicles’ trophy deserves special mention – if you have a caption that you think might suit this picture please send it in!!
At the reunion I had a number of requests for either a grad class picture or a list of names of people in the picture – or both. I thought this might be of interest to all grads so I’m attaching the picture and related info to this email. The names are courtesy of Frank Papp who had the foresight to actually write the names down 47 years ago, thus avoiding modern day mental lapses. [Editor's Note: this is the Photo that you find here.]
Recognizing that it is never too early to start planning the next reunion in 2020, and wanting to apply the lessons learned from planning and executing this last one we will be assessing the feedback from this one will test some ideas on you in the next little while. In particular, thinking back to the 2015 reunion at the University, it seemed to us that the alumni supper hosted by the University was a bust, so we will be proposing to host a ‘parallel’ reunion in Waterloo that will allow you to participate in our own class events but also afford you the opportunity to take part in any of the University sponsored tours, lectures, demonstrations, etc.
John Lubrick roomed with Frank Papp and Steve Wilson for a few terms. He found a few pictures that he provided so we are sharing them with you in the attachment. If other pictures happen to surface please send them on to us.
Oh, and many of you will be sad to learn that one of our favourite watering holes – the Blue Moon – is closing its doors for good this fall. It seems that modern day students just don’t appreciate the finer things in life the way we did!!
In the meantime, keep well and keep us posted with your ideas for future get-togethers.
